A PLAYBOOK FOR POSITIVE AGING
SEASONED (not Senior)
MOVEMENT
A lighthearted interactive playbook of inspiring stories, fresh insights, and playful word puzzles designed to offer readers a positive perspective on aging.
About the Book
In the United States, roughly 11,400 people turned 65 every day in 2025. When you’re a senior in high school or college, the next step is graduating into a full new phase of life. Too often, “senior citizen” is made to imply the opposite. Words have power. As a collective of SEASONED individuals, our extensive life experience is exactly what makes each of us unique and distinct: not a profile of people near the end, rather individuals with more life to contribute.
Welcome to the SEASONED MOVEMENT. A movement for kindness, appreciation, and compassion.

People
As referenced earlier, humans are meant to connect with others. When we find individuals, tribes, and communities with shared values and interests, we feel a sense of being connected.
A conversation with a Seasoned woman was insightful. She was reminded of being in elementary school on the playground hoping that she would find someone who liked her enough to spend recess together and become friends. She remembered all the childhood insecurities of "fitting in." Now as a Seasoned person, when she enters a gathering, she allows herself to be at choice with who she connects with, no pressure. She's comfortable in her skin, knows the positive energy that she seeks, and lets the connections happen organically. When we spoke, her energy was grounded and inviting. The world was now her playground.
Play
When we are playful our energy is light and engaging. Play often keeps us active, whether physically, mentally, or emotionally. Activities such as dance, bowling, working out, walking, Pickleball, board games, card games, trivia, Bunco, quilting, crafting, gardening, photography, painting, writing, are just a few of the many options of play. I admire those who fill their personal voids with playful activities that are of interest to them. Book clubs, movie nights, history, the arts, artistic design, jewelry making, science, wood working, and so much more.
What feels like work to some is play for others. Be open, be curious, and see what options are available to experience. As Seasoned people, we are choosing the playground where we'd enjoy spending our time, especially when surrounded by playful, spirited, and lighthearted energy. Find a way to maximize play!
What Readers Are Saying
About the Author
Jayne L. Garrett is an author and advocate for positive aging and purposeful living through a movement of kindness, appreciation, and compassion.
Jayne’s writing is conversational. She writes to build awareness. Her work usually does one of three things: confirms what you already know, enhances it, or offers something new. She began writing young, with lyrics and poetry. Her first two books were lighthearted humor, followed by a series on basic business topics. SEASONED (not Senior) MOVEMENT carries that same voice into an interactive playbook of stories, insights, and references.
